Positive about numbers

Do you want to be able to help your children with their schoolwork and improve your own numeracy?

Positive about Numbers will give you a solid grounding in numeracy and a Level 4 or 5 Mathematics qualification.

An experienced lecturer will deliver sessions either online or join in at one of our welcoming, local centres and get support from centre staff. We’ve designed our sessions to be helpful, practical, and fun. Classes are two and a half hours a week for 10 weeks.

Start dates: Evening class - 15 January 2024. Day class -16 January 2024.

Positive about money

Do you want to develop new numeracy skills for everyday life, like budgeting and managing money?

Positive about money will help you:

  • understand the costs involved with borrowing money;
  • consider long-term financial planning; and
  • look at different ways of buying goods and compare different deals.

An experienced lecturer will deliver our practical and fun sessions either online or join in at one of our welcoming, local centres, and get support from our centre staff. Classes are two and a half hours a week for 10 weeks.

Confident about communications

Help your children with their schoolwork, improve your own literacy skills and become more confident in how you communicate with our new 10-week programme. 

You’ll get a solid grounding in basic literacy and a Level 3, 4 or 5 Communication qualification, covering Reading, Writing, Speaking & Listening. Improving skills could lead to extra qualifications and a better job.

An experienced lecturer will deliver sessions that are designed to be useful, practical, and fun so that everyone gets as much benefit as possible from the learning.

Start date: 15 January 2024.

Life skills

Living on your own for the first time takes a range of skills such as understanding budgeting, nutrition, cooking, wellbeing, resilience, and internet safety. Our intensive three-day course will take you through a series of workshops designed to introduce you to the skills needed to help you avoid some of the pitfalls of being away from home. We’ll look at making your money go further, avoiding debt, how to eat well for less, and understanding how social media missteps can affect your employment prospects.

Helensburgh: 9-11 January 2024

ESOL beginners Level 3 (Rothesay)

We can help you learn English as your second language for FREE. This course will help you be able to talk to people in English and do things like shopping, going to the bank and working. You will get a qualification at the end.

This course will run every Monday and Wednesday 4pm - 6pm, with a two week break for Easter. Classes will be taught at our Rothesay centre.

Start date: 11 March 2024

ESOL Level 4

If you have started to learn English as a second language, and you would like to get a qualification, our Level 4 ESOL will help you develop your reading, writing, listening, and speaking, using straightforward English language. You will improve how you can communicate in every aspect of day-to-day life, enhancing friendships and employment prospects.

You can choose between evening and daytime classes in both Helensburgh and Oban.

Start dates: Day classes 12 January 2024, Evening classes 6 December 2023
